Description	From the Robert C. Waller Photographs. Photograph (positive image of a negative) of guardsmen outside of the courthouse in Laurel, Mississippi, during the first trial of Willie McGee. McGee was escorted to the trial under armed guard out of fear of a lynching. McGee, who was accused of raping a white woman, was tried three times and found guilty each time. This picture was likely taken on 6 December 1945, the day of the first trial.
