Description	From the Paul B. Johnson Family Papers. Erle Johnston, Jr., director of the Mississippi State Sovereignty Commission, writes to Governor Paul B. Johnson and Lieutenant Governor Carroll Gartin on 5 May 1964, concerning the dismissal of Dr. A.D. Beittel as president of Tougaloo College. Dr. Beittel, a white man, was active in the civil rights movement. His involvement caused him to get fired as president. The memo also recommends that a legislative bill be passed to remove accreditation from Tougaloo College.
