Title	Tractor ride at Dahmer fish fry; July 4, 1964
Description	From the Randall (Herbert) Freedom Summer Photographs; Local teenager Doug Smith drives one of Vernon Dahmer's tractors pulling a flat bed hauling group of Freedom Summer volunteers. The group includes Arthur Reese (holding a radio), Terri Shaw (barely visible behind Reese), Sandy Leigh (sitting with his feet hanging off the right side of the flat bed), Patricia Von Yorck (to the right of Leigh), and Susan Patterson wearing sunglasses at far right). To the right of Doug Smith on the tractor is Vernon Dahmer's son Dennis. The photograph was taken at the fish fry given for the volunteers by local civil rights leader Vernon Dahmer on the Dahmer property in the Kelly Settlement, to the north of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, on July 4,1964. The gathering marked the official beginning of Freedom Summer in Hattiesburg.
