Volunteers and local African-American activists participate in a meeting held in a large room with square pillars in an African-American church during Freedom Summer in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, 1964. Standing speaking to the group is volunteer Johanna 'Johnnie' Winchester, whose responsibilities included voter registration education. In the foreground, with his back to the camera, is SNCC Field Secretary Sandy Leigh, Director of the Hattiesburg project.
