September the 7 1862 Merriland Dear Aunt Care, I this morning set down on a eyland in the Potomac River with my blotes off to write you a few lines. The river is six hundred yds wide. Hear I will close by saying I am going on in Marriland. You need not write till I write agan. From your affectionate nephew, W.H.D.
