Letter from Carolyn Smith
At Priest Creek we have been studying Negro history. we learned about the Amistad revolt and the role of the American Negro in the struggle for freedom. We have learned the names of famous Negroes such as Georges Cinques who led the revolt, Salem Prince and Peter Salem who fought at Bunker Hill, Crispus Attucks who fell in the Boston Massacre, and Nat Turner who led a slave rebellion in Virginia in 1831. We have studied African history also and have learned that African countries were civilized and in the 15th century had universities and libraries, intellectuals and doctors.
At Priest Creek we fell that the younger generation has more get up and go than the older generation had. If the previous generation had forgot harder for freedom we might have had a Civil Rights Bill thirsty years ago.
