Letter to Zoya, August 15 and 16, 1964
Transcript
Aug. 15
Dear Zoya -
I'm in Hattiesburg ( 507 Mobile St.) working in a community center in Palmer's Crossing just outside ( i.e. a rural area!)
Aug 16 -
Drove up to Neshoba County today for the memorial service at the Mt. Zion Church. A very moving experience. James' little brother, sister and mother all spoke and it was really inspiring to see the courage and dedication ["with" scratched through in the original document] which they have. There were about 200 people gathered around the charred are with the deputies involved in the slaughter right in the immediate vicinity. How ironic!
Tomorrow the kids who are staying for the yr are going to Jackson for the orientation so we'll be short staffed. I'm rooming with Mary Sue Gelletly whom you met at Oxford. A wonderful gal - How's everything w/you
We shall overcome! - JA
[Text written down the left side of the letter: Love from Heidi Dear Zoy, It's me, Heidi. [What] craziness to run into Ginny here. Will call]
