My Dear Caroline,
I seat myself this afternoon to write you a few lines to inform you that I am well today with the acception of being verry near broken down. We have lying in line of battle for three or four days. Yesterday morning, Lee found that the Yankees was leaving North Anner River. Lee was on the south side, Grant was on the. Lee fortified for his men & Grant was afread to attact us in fortifications. The cavaladry is fighting today. Caroline, I herd from Jabe today. I was so sorry that I had written to you what I herd on account of his family but Thomas J. Morrison came to my Company & ses to me Granville, Jabe was killed. I told him no I recon not. If this letter get to you as soon as the one that I sent to you
