Hanover Junction May the 5 1864
My Dear Mary,
I seat myself this morning to write you a line to let you know that I am well at the preasent. Truly whoping when those few lines come to hand you may be enjoying the same. We come to Hanover yesterday about twelve oclock. We come to this place to gard the bridges to keep the Yank from getting the cars or burning the bridges on the two railroads. I think this move is a verry good introduction to Lee's army. That is my opinion. They are fixing for the big fight at northern Virginia. Bothe armys are reinforcing as fast as they can. Jen. Buregard is comeing on his way from Charleston with his army. The Yankees were moveing up the Rapd Dam yesterday. I have not seen the paper this morning. Perhaps I may here something new before I get threw writing. It is thought that this fight will end this cruel ware. I am of the same opinion you are about the ware will not end as long as they have got any pore men to fight for them. That the part of it.
