January the 1 Camp near Kinston
December is gone. This is New Years Day Sixty 64 My Dear Caroline,
I seat myself this morning to inform you that I am well with the acception of a sore ancle. My ancle is verry sore yet the Dr. Dortry lanced it a few days ago. I am in my house that I was left in when the Regment left me. I have herd that two Company of my Regment was taken prisoners. The Yankees has got two Companys but I never lernt what Companys it was that was taken. I do not nowe whether it is so or not. The Fifty Third, Ninth Regment and three Companys of artillery.
