Camp White Oak Swamp April the 31 1864
My Dear Caroline,
I seat myself this morning to write you a few lines to inform you that I am well. Truly whoping when those few lines reaches you they may find you enjoying the same blessing. I have no news to write of importance. The army is quiet on the lines this morning. I do not nowe how long they will be so. We had orders to file up & fall in day before yesterday. The Yankees made their appearance on the penensula in a large force so the papers say. We had orders to meet them but we did not leave camp. I am under gard myself. I was arrested day before yesterday to read my sentence to the Regment. The Yanks made their appearance. They did not read our sentenses. They was not red til yesterday then myself and eight other men had to walk out ungard & here my sentence. When the adpulant called my name I had to walk out five pases.
