Transcript	November the 13 1862 Culpeper Courthouse, VA My Dear Mary, I take my pen in hand to drop you a few lines to inform you that I am well except my rist. I hurt my rist some way or nother. I cant tell how I done it but it has bin swlen for one month. I have no news to write worth telling. I cant tell what way we will move form here. Some say our army will fall back to Gordensville. I am in hopse they will fall back soon towards Richmond soon. I want that substitute we was talking about worst wars evryday. They are verry strict & have bin evry since I left home. If I had have got the chance to looked around two or three days I would have gotten in the substitute & bin at long time ago. My intention is to put one if it takes the last shirt off ove my back. If Wash has not started to get me that substitute, I want you to send me evry dollar that you can spare. I expect to have to pay twelve hundred dollars for one if I cant get one for less. I am determined to get one now as soon as possible. I want you to get Washington Dickinson to come to Richmond & get the man & fetch him to the Regment. If the Sargent pronounces him a sound man, they will be bound to take him. I want to get home as possible. Kow (know)
