Transcript	Letter the January the 23 1863 Caroline County Near Fredericksburg, VA My Dear Mary, I recieved you kind letter of the first of the month & was verry glad to here from you. I have went to the office a great many times with the expectation of getting a letter from you but all in vain. I am happy to here from you at anytime. I love to read you letters eqally as well as you do to read mine. I have recieved one letter from in this New YearI have herd from you one more time. You must write one letter a week & I will do the same. I will number the balance of my letters commince from this letter. You say you not got the stamps. I sent you ten stamps some time since Christmast. I will send you some again soon. I have non at the preasant. You may expect to here of the Yankeys getting another whipping soon. Old Jackson is setting the trap now. You need not be uneasy about me. I am boiling beef now. It is now about ten oclock, the beef is about done. Myself & Elija Ritchardson are the cooks for the Company at the presant. The cooking is not a verry hard task now. The Company drass their provisions raw & does their own cookin in order to have it warm. They have got three skillets at camp and we have two down here. We have to cook for Captain Griggs & Lieutenant B. W. Liphipott. Lieutenant Belcher has sent in his resignation. He has never bin
