Washington, Maryland July 11 1863 My Dear Mary,
I take this oportynity to write you a few lines to let you know that I am yet roving with the army yet I am well at this time. We have bin into Pennsylvania. We have had a great eal of hard marching to do since we crost the Potomack River & more than that, our men has had to do the hardest fightting that ever has bin done since the foundation of the world. Our devision was cut all to peses (pieces). They was ordered to charge the batry. They promply obeyed orders. Nine tenths of the officrs was killed or wounded.
