My Dear Mary,
I seat myself this eavening to write you a few lines to inform you that I am with my Regiment. I am not well yet. My ancle (ankle) is not well. It is some better than it has bin. I am on picket today & have bin ever since last Monday night. There is not mutch news in this lonesome part of the world. Some of the boys has bin taken by the Yankees without fireing the first gun. The Yanks gets some of the men here evry two or three days. I expect they will get us all if we stay here mutch longer. If they get me you must not be uneasy about me.
