Letter, Granville W. Belcher to Mary Caroline Belcher; 14 February 1863

              In Camp near Guinna Station February the 14 1863 My Dear Mary,
I take the pleasureful opportunity of writing you a few lines to inform that I am well at preasent. Whoping when those few lines comes to hand you may be enjoying the same. I have no news to write worth relating. Haly A. Cooper is dead. He was on gard when he was taken sick. He was taken out of his head. He was sick two nights & one day. He died Wednesday morning & was burned Thirsday. The docters say it is brain fever that is killing men so fast. There was fore men died in our Regment the cource of ten days. I am cooking yet my health is verry good. My weight is one hundred and seventy five pounds. The beef agrees with me first rate. Mary, I sent you sixty dollers by Mr. Morrison. I concluded after I had ritten the letter that I sent to at the same time that I would send ten doller more than I written you word I had sent. I shel send you more than soon the first good chance I have. I drew forty dollars today. I find it is is is a bad plan to try to keep money here. Sometimes I can spend it one or two days if was disposed to do so. Could eat & drink ten dollers worth in one day verry handy. You say you want me to write you word what Minter done with them shoes & socks. I never seen the shoes since I left Danville. When I got to Danville as I come down & to rush to get on the train.
