My Dear Car,
I take my pen in hand to drop you a few lines to inform you that I am getting along verry well at preasant. Hoping when those few lines comes to hand you m ay be enjoying the same blessing. We have bin shelled buy the Yankeys but we have not lost any member of our Company yet. I have crst (crossed) the Potomac River four times. We had to wade it three times out of four. It was from three to four feel deep. You could ghess that was pretty rougf. I have seen you brother Joseph R. Dicinson today. He is well. He was not hert in neather one of the two last fights. His fine horse that he baught over in Meryland the other day got struck with two peses of shells. Noched the hare off his horse. He ses he paid one hundred & sixty dollars for him in Meryland & he ses his horse would bring three hundred over here. Colnel Cabel told Josep that Henry faugt like a hero. I want you to write.
