Dear Mary,
I take my pen in hand to inform you that I am well. Hopeing when those few lines comes to hand you be enjoying the same blessing. I have know news to write. We heard last night the Yankeys was comeing. It was not so. The boat that was coming up the river was our own boat. I do not nowe (know) whether they will come here at all or not. You may be well assured that I will not try to fight the Yankeys by myself. Last night we ware ordered down to the river to hold the battery but the Yankeys did not come. If they do come they will get into a fight shure. Dear Car, you must tell Wash the day after he left, old Armsted sent Dardon to drill our Company. They are fixing to put him over us I expect. Dear Car, I recieved a letter from you date the 12 marked at Martinsville and yesterday I recieved one dated I do not know when but it was mailed the 7 of March. It had nowe date.
