My dear companion,
I embrace an opportunity of writing you a few lines to let you know that we all are well
with the exception of Pleasant and I think he is mending. The Dr. has been to see him
three times this week. He seems to think fleas has the fever. I hope these few lines will
find you well and doing well. There is no news stirring in this part of the country worth
relating. The prospect for small grain is rather gloomy at the present. We are not done
planting corn yet. We will get done next week if nothing turns up to prevent. Uncle
Frank has started his mill. The water covers the land some little distance above the trees
what you and he marked.
