The author feels that the shock of civil rights work on individuals would be lessened if volunteers were acculturated to the movement's atmosphere before being sent into the field. The proposal sets forth a program to develop personal qualities like restraint, moderation, respect, and democratic decision-making in civil rights workers in a controlled setting. The proposal and included budget outline the facilities, materials, and funds needed to implement a program that will include classes, lectures, films, and discussion groups. The trainees will live in group cottages while in participating in order to learn self-governance within their cottage groups.
