Civil Rights Collection; This transcription of Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) chairman John Lewis's address to the Equal Rights Subcommittee of the Democratic National Committee explains what SNCC is and details the exclusion of the African Americans from participation in political parties in Mississippi. Lewis makes the case that the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party (MFDP) should be allowed to conduct the regular elections for the state, because it is the only party in Mississippi that does not discriminate against people based on their race. In his address, he also notes that the National Democratic Party should disallow the use of their name by those politicians who support segregation and unfair election procedures.
