Mr. Johnson,
I wrote to Sallie a few days ago and directed the letter to Brandon for two reasons. First, that you and Mrs J. might hear from us and, second, I thought Sallie would be more certain to get it than if directed to Raleigh. I haven't heard from Sallie in two months. I judge from that that there is no mail communications with Smith [County] now. Do send her this letter as soon as you get it and write to me at once. We have a mail at army headquarters every day, and if you will direct it to me to the care of "General J. A. Smith., Commanding, Cleburne's Division, Army of Tennessee," I will get it in a few days.
