Camp near Richmond
July 22nd, 1862
My Dear, Dear Sallie,
I have just received your note including the four letters which I left, and I have concluded to write you a few hasty lines this evening. I am feeling better today that I have in a month, though I have a very bad cold. My general health is improving and think "Richard will soon be himself again."
I wrote to you last week besides sending a telegram, both of which I hope have safely reached you. I reported for duty the next day after arriving here and have been drilling every day since. Today I am in command of the regiment as all the field officers are absent. I think it probable we will remain here
