My Dear Sallie,
I have just arrived here on sick leave. I wrote you in two previous letters that I was on sick leave at Culpeper Court House. I got able to leave there and have come here for variety sake first and to get some shoes for myself and some for my men. Besides, it didn't cost me anything to come, being on the sick list. I shall stay here tomorrow when I return to my company.
I received a letter from you written on the 14th [of] March, giving me an account of your difficulties in getting things righted-up in Raleigh. It gives me much trouble to think that my dear was in Raleigh by her lone self, not even
