[Not dated]
My Dear Sallie,
I wrote you last from the great battlefield of Manassas when on the 30th August we fought the greatest battle of the war and won the completest victory. I gave you a list of men killed and wounded. I promised to write you full particulars of the fight in this, but I can't do it as I have but five minutes to write in. We pursued the enemy to Fairfax Court House going by our old camps of Page Land, Chantilly, Centreville Camp Toombs. The Yankees were driven into Washington, and we changed our direction, came up by Leesburg, which we passed through yesterday, and we will cross into Maryland. This morning, already have thirty thousand men crossed over, and by tomorrow morning, we will have one hundred thousand men in Maryland.
