Camp Clark, Corinth, Mississippi June 2nd, 1861
My Dear Sallie,
This will inform you that I arrived safely at this place on yesterday with my company all in fine health and spirits, except a little diarrhea, headache, etc., etc., caused from fatigue and the use of time water. We had a very good time in Brandon, were hospitably entertained by the Rankin Greys and citizens generally. We left Brandon on the Friday train. I never shall forget the numerous kind favors of the ladies of Brandon. 1 have my men now all in camps here. We have everything except blankets and knapsacks. I am now sitting on the ground for my chair and using a little plank for a table, yet I am content.
I hope, my dear, you will content yourself for it will be my greatest pleasure to know that you are satisfied. I bought you a breast pin and had my Ambrotype
