Mr. Hardy,
I was made the happy recipient of a letter from your pen several days since, and was much pleased as well at entertained with the contents. I did not however get it from the post office without some difficulty as it was rumored that there was a letter for me from Raleigh as soon as the mail was opened it passed through several hands, and at last came safely into mine without many bruises, I do think that some of the Brandonians ought to have a premium awarded them for meddlesome curiosity. I am glad to hear that Dr. Pierce is coming over so soon, I do so hope that he and Mattie R— will fancy each other. I must acknowledge that I am some what selfish in the wish, it would add
