Biography
Mrs. Alyce West Richardson was born on August 2, 1930, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, to John Parker and Cordelia M. West. One of two siblings, she grew up in Cleveland, Mississippi, and attended the Hill Demonstration School. After more than thirty years as the secretary- treasurer of West Implement Company, Inc., and West Machine Shop, Inc., she retired in 1983.
She attended and was graduated from Cleveland High School and Delta State Teachers College from which she earned a B. S. in business administration. Mrs. Richardson was married to the late C. J. " Rich" Richardson Jr. She has one son, C. J. " Jimbo" Richardson III, and two daughters, Lucy Richardson Janoush and Lee Richardson McKinley. She also has four grandchildren, Will Janoush, Mary Parker Janoush, Nick McKinley, and Rich McKinley.
Mrs. Richardson is a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Cleveland, Mississippi, where she is an elder, a deacon, and a member of the choir. She belongs to the Cleveland- Bolivar County Chamber of Commerce, the Mississippi Economic Council, the Crosstie Arts Council, the Bolivar County Historical Society, the Mississippi Historical Society, the Cleveland Junior Auxiliary, the Cleveland Kappa Delta Alumnae Association, the Delta Council, and Amici. She was the director of The Valley Bank for seventeen years, the director of the Delta State University Foundation, Mid- South Farm Equipment Association, and the Inter- Alumni Council.
Mrs. Richardson's civic honors include president of the Chamber of Commerce, president of United Givers Fund, president of Crosstie Arts Council, president of Delta State University Alumni Association, president of Cleveland Junior Auxiliary, president of National Association of Junior Auxiliaries, president of Cleveland Kappa Delta Alumnae Association, vice chair and chair of Inter- Alumni Council, director of Mississippi Economic Council for one year, and vice president of Delta Council. In 1973, Mrs. Richardson received the first President's Award from the Chamber of Commerce. In 1978- 79, she was awarded the S. E. Kossman Award for outstanding community service from the Chamber of Commerce. In 1975, she was chosen Junior Auxiliary Charity Ball Queen.
