Biography
Dr. Forest Kent Wyatt was born on May 27, 1934, in Berea, Kentucky. His parents were Forest Earl Wyatt and Almeda Hymer " Doodie" Wyatt. He attended Delta State College ( now Delta State University), in Cleveland, Mississippi, where his father was a professor and coach, graduating with a double degree in mathematics and health, physical education, and recreation.
Upon graduation, he began a teaching career at University Military School in Mobile, Alabama. After obtaining a master's degree from The University of Southern Mississippi and after four years of teaching and a brief military obligation, he moved back to his hometown of Cleveland, Mississippi, and began teaching at his high school alma mater, Cleveland High School.
In 1964, Dr. Wyatt became Delta State College's first alumni secretary. During his tenure in this position, he completed his doctoral degree from the University of Mississippi. Having served Delta State University as alumni secretary for four years, Dr. Wyatt became the administrative assistant to President James W. Ewing in 1968, and also served as administrative assistant to Dr. Aubrey Lucas who became president of the college in 1971.
Dr. Kent Wyatt became the fifth president of Delta State University in 1975, and served in that capacity for twenty- four years, retiring in 1999. He is now serving Delta State University as president emeritus.
Dr. Wyatt is married to the former Janice Collins, and they reside in Cleveland, Mississippi. They have two daughters, Tara Mounger of Jackson, Mississippi, and Dr. Elizabeth Mitchell of Germantown, Tennessee. Additionally, they have two grandchildren, Wyatt and Collins Mounger of Jackson, Mississippi.
