Biography
LePoint Cassibry Smith was born on October 29, 1920, in Memphis, Tennessee; she grew up in Cleveland, Mississippi. Her parents were Napoleon LePoint Cassibry and Myrtle Hill Cassibry. From kindergarten through sixth grade, she attended the Hill Demonstration School at Delta State Teachers College; she then attended and was graduated from the Cleveland Consolidated School. She attended Delta State Teachers College and the University of Mississippi from which she was graduated in May, 1941, having earned her B. A. degree. In 1970, she earned her master's in library science from Delta State University.
In 1942, she worked for the Works Progress Administration, determining eligibility for jobs in Lowndes and Noxubee Counties. From 1948 through 1986, she was the director of the Bolivar County Library. In January, 1944, she married Warwick Vosper Smith, and they had three daughters, Ivy Smith Alley, Charlotte Evan Smith, and Mimi Smith Clark.
