Biography
Terri ( Charlotte) Shaw was born July 23, 1940, in Washington, D. C. Her parents were Richard and Kathleen Shaw. She grew up in Bay Village, Ohio, Caracas, Venezuela and Guatemala City. She graduated from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio, in 1963, then went to work for the Buffalo ( N. Y.) Courier- Express before spending the summer in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, in 1964. She earned a Master's degree in journalism from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in 1965, and then took a job with the Associated Press in New York. In 1966- 67, she traveled and worked in South America. In 1970, she won a fellowship at the Washington Journalism Center, then went to work as an assistant foreign editor at the Washington Post. While working for the Post, she traveled to Cuba, and South and Central America. She also earned two certificates in advanced translation ( Spanish into English and French into English) from Georgetown University and undertook a second career as a translator. She is married to Seven Gray, a computer analyst. Her three daughters are Natasha Stovall, Maria Shaw and Gemesa Gray.
