Biography
Born on October 20, 1939, in Sandy Ridge, Lowndes County, Alabama, Mr. Loyce Searight moved with his family to Biloxi, Mississippi, in March of 1947. Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic School was the first school he attended, through seventh grade, when he transferred to Marshall Franklin Nichols High School in 1957.
He was graduated from M. F. Nichols High School in Biloxi, Mississippi, and went on to graduate from the American College of Metaphysical Theology with a Bachelor of Arts in Divinity. He attended the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Jefferson Davis Campus, Vocational and Technical Division where his course of study was industrial electronics and from which he was graduated with a certificate. Additionally he was graduated from the Association of Government Accountants with a certificate in Accounting and Financial Management. He attended Southern Company College from which he was graduated with certificates in Empowered Leadership, Coaching for Commitment, and Computer Skills Development.
He was a member of the United States Army where he attended and was graduated from the U. S. Army Reserves First Sergeant Academy. From November, 1966, to November, 1994, he worked as an electrical worker, including power plant supervisor of plant operations, until he retired. As a businessman specializing in retail sales, he owned and operated his own newsstand in Biloxi, Mississippi. He was a transportation specialist in the U. S. Army Reserves, a Unit First Sergeant, 296th Transportation Company, Brookhaven, Mississippi, as an E- 8 with thirty years of service.
A member of the United Methodist Church, Mr. Searight is chair of the family selection committee for the Harrison County Habitat for Humanity; he is on the board of directors for Community Bridges. He is a member of the Free and Accepted Ancient York Rite Masons, the NAACP, the NCO Association, M. F. Nichols High School Alumni Association. His awards and honors include the National Defense Ribbon with Bronze Star, NCO Development Ribbon with Level Four, U. S. Army Reserve Ribbon with two hourglasses, and the U. S.
