Biography
Otho Monroe was born April 30, 1912, at McDonald's Mill near Tylertown, Mississippi. During his childhood, the family moved around as his father worked for several timber companies. He graduated from Canton High School in 1931, where he played football. He was also on the football team at Millsaps College, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1935. Monroe became a teacher, a coach, a principal and a school superintendent. He taught in Brooksville, Biloxi, Vicksburg, Canton, and Senatobia. He was superintendent of the Senatobia school district from 1949 until 1968. He resigned in protest of school desegregation. He then became an administrator at a school in Madison, Mississippi. He retired in 1975.
