Biography
Born on November 6, 1916, in Quito, Mississippi, Mrs. Martha Sisson Miller was the daughter of John William Sisson and Myrlea Johnson Sisson. She attended elementary and high school at Indianola City School. She attended Sunflower Junior College and Delta State Teachers College from which she was graduated with a B. S. E. At the University of Mississippi, she earned her M. Ed.
In 1938, she married Melbourne Miller. She spent forty years teaching in Cleveland, Rosedale, Clarksdale, and Oxford, Mississippi, and she is currently retired. She has been active in the Order of the Eastern Star, AAUW, Retired Teachers, Fairfield Garden Club, Cleveland Woman's Club, Bolivar County Homemaker's Club, First Baptist Church, and Alpha Sigma. She was chosen Woman of the Year in 1990, and Queen of the Charity Ball in 1991.
She is the mother of two children, Melbourne Miller Jr. who was graduated from Ole Miss, and Priscilla Shields who was graduated from Delta State University.
