Biography
Clarence Magee was born in 1932 in Columbia, Mississippi, to Glessie and Ora Bell Magee. He was the oldest of ten children and was raised working on his parents' farm.
Mr. Magee graduated from high school in 1949, graduated with a bachelor's degree from Alcorn in 1954, and attended graduate school at Harvard. He served in the U. S. Army for two years and was stationed in Germany.
Mr. Magee earned a teaching certificate and taught school in Wayne County, at the Prentiss Institute, and at several schools in Hattiesburg. While working in Hattiesburg, he was involved in the local biracial committee and was active in helping schools formulate desegregation plans. He later worked for the Southern Mississippi Planning Commission. He then worked for twenty- one years for the U. S. government's Food and Nutrition Services office in Mobile, Alabama.
Mr. Magee retired in 1997 and continues to make his home in Hattiesburg.
