Biography
Mr. Semmes Luckett was born on October 28, 1905, in Yazoo City, Mississippi, to Mr. William Griffin Luckett and Mrs. Kate Cobb Luckett. He graduated from Yazoo City Public Schools and entered the University of Mississippi ( Ole Miss) in 1923. He graduated from law school in 1928 and began his law practice in Greenwood, Mississippi. In 1932 he accepted an offer to join a firm in Clarksdale and practiced law there until shortly before his death in 1987.
Mr. Luckett was active in community and civic affairs. He was chairman of the Democratic Executive Committee of Coahoma County for many years. He was a member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church. He married the former Celeste Roberson of Clarksdale in 1933. They had four children: Celeste, Lucretia, Semmes Jr., and Claudia. Mr. Luckett died on January 25, 1987.
