Biography
Mr. Horace Lawson Buckley was born on July 14, 1941 in Jackson, Mississippi, to Reverend Cassie Calvin Buckley and Jessie Sibley Buckley. In 1960 he graduated from Lanier High School in Jackson. He completed his undergraduate degree at Mississippi Valley State in 1964 and taught in Greenville public schools in 1965. He then went to Tuskegee Institute, Tuskegee, Alabama, for a master's degree in guidance counseling / educational psychology.
Returning to Jackson, Mr. Buckley served in Jackson public schools for 8 years before running for the Mississippi House of Representatives in 1975. He was elected and is currently serving his fourth consecutive term in the House. While in the legislature Mr. Buckley has worked on the Judiciary B Committee, Education Committee and the Penitentiary Committee. In addition, Mr. Buckley was appointed to the Select Committee on Education and is a member to the National Assembly of State Legislators, representing Mississippi as a member of that body's Education Committee.
Mr. Buckley is a member of the Board of the General Baptist State Convention, Commissioner for the City of Jackson's Housing Authority, member of the Jackson District Association, and Minister and Pastor of the Cade Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
He is married to the former Myra Beamon of Camden, Mississippi, and they are the parents of four children: Horace, Carol, Cedric and Reginald.
