Biography
Jesse Boyce Holleman was born to Clifford and Ruth Taylor Holleman on February 26, 1924, at Fruitland Park, Mississippi, a rural area near Wiggins. He graduated from high school in Wiggins in 1940 and went to Perkinston Junior College for one year. He then attended Ole Miss for one year before enlisting in the Navy. As a Navy pilot, Mr. Holleman flew missions in the Pacific Theater of Operations. His plane was shot down in the harbor of Saipan island. Although rescued by Americans, he suffered severe burns and was hospitalized for months. He did return to active duty, however, and retired in 1946 as a lieutenant commander. Back at Ole Miss, Mr. Holleman completed a liberal arts degree and entered law school. His first year in law school, at age 23, he campaigned for and won a seat in the Mississippi House of Representatives from Stone County. He served in the house from 1947 until ' 53. In ' 53, Holleman was appointed district attorney for the Second Circuit Court District. He then ran for that post, won, and was reelected for the next 19 years. When he retired as district attorney in 1972, he returned to private practice and was appointed attorney for both the Harrison County Board of Supervisors and School Board. Mr. Holleman is active in professional organizations as a member of the American Bar Association, the American Judicature Society, the American Trial Lawyers Association, the Mississippi Trial Lawyers Association and has served as past president of the Mississippi Bar Association. Mr. Holleman is married to the former Annie Louise Dabbs of Gulfport and Columbia, and they live in Gulfport. There are six children in the Holleman family.
