Biography
Mr. Hervey O. Hicks was born on a farm near Benton, Mississippi, in Yazoo County in 1900. One of five children, Mr. Hicks graduated from Yazoo County Agricultural High School in 1920 and farmed and operated a country store in his home community.
In 1931 Mr. Hicks ran a successful campaign for election to the Mississippi House of Representatives and served one term. In 1936 he returned to farming and did not engage in public service again until 1947, when he ran once more for the Mississippi House of Representatives and was elected. Mr. Hicks served continuously in the House from 1948 until his retirement in 1976. His committee activities included participation on the Appropriations Committee, Railroad Committee, and Public Utilities Committee.

| Description | Oral history.; Interview conducted on September 2, 1976 with the Honorable Hervey O. Hicks at his home in Benton, Mississippi. Hicks was born on a farm near Benton, Mississippi, in Yazoo County in 1900. In 1931, he ran a successful campaign for election to the Mississippi House of Representatives. After serving one term, he returned to farming and did not enter into public service again until 1947, when he ran once more for the Mississippi House of Representatives. He won that election and served from 1948 until his retirement in 1976. His committee activities included participation of the Appropriations Committee, Railroad Committee, and Public Utilities Committee. |
