Biography
Mr. James Cohen has spent much of his life working to improve Hattiesburg and Forrest County. Born in Forrest County in 1920, Mr. Cohen has been an active participant in the growth and development of the area. His collegiate career, interrupted by two years of military service, included brief stops at Alcorn A& M and Willowforce University before concluding at Xavier University, where he received a pharmacy degree. Mr. Cohen then returned to Hattiesburg and has been employed at the same pharmacy since 1953. Since his return, Mr. Cohen has been very active in several civic associations. His interview provides insight into race relations and city politics in Hattiesburg since the 1950s.
